“NASA Prepares Four Astronauts for 10-Day Mission to the Moon on Artemis II Program”

JAKARTA (Ekbistangsel) – The United States’ National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is currently preparing four astronauts for a 10-day mission to the Moon. The four astronauts will be on NASA’s Artemis II program using the Orion spacecraft.

The four NASA astronauts are Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Hammock Koch, and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen. According to the report by nasa.gov, they are now preparing to begin their training in June, as NASA prepares for the first manned mission in the agency’s path to establishing a long-term presence on the Moon for science and exploration.

Prior to the mission, they will receive detailed lessons on the Orion spacecraft and the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket system, and learn how to operate and monitor systems for ascent, orbit and shore, and mission entry phases, and how to respond in emergency situations.

“Our Artemis II flight test crew will pave extraordinary avenues for science at the forefront of all of our future manned missions,” said NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy. “Their flight test skills and personal courage during their journey to the Moon will enable the next big step in our Moon to Mars strategy.”

During the first phase of training, the crew will learn about key systems to lay the foundation for the rest of their training.

Experts from NASA’s Flight Operations Directorate at Johnson Space Center in Houston will train them on daily operations in space and mission phases, and the crew will begin practicing how to operate the Orion, vehicle controls, and audio and imagery systems.

“We are building a strong training plan for the crew to ensure they are ready for every aspect of the first mission to the Moon under Artemis on our newest spacecraft and rocket,” said Jacki Mahaffey, principal training officer for the Artemis II crew.
