Caroline Tensen experienced ‘the most horrible period’ of her life when she went through menopause. The presenter didn’t feel like anything anymore and couldn’t be home alone for a moment, she says The Telegraph.
“I woke up one morning and all I wanted to do was cry,” Tensen says. “I didn’t know myself like that at all. I didn’t feel like anything anymore and it wasn’t about it. At a certain point I couldn’t even be home alone anymore.”
Tensen says she was taken to her daughter when her husband had to work, so as not to be alone at home.
The presenter wrote the book The forbidden word about the transition. She hopes to help other women with it. “I never wanted to talk about it either. They didn’t know what was going on with me at the time on television. There is shame, misunderstanding and ignorance.”
‘He had an unrecognizable wife who didn’t feel like anything’
Tensen had been with her partner Ernst-Jan for four years when she went through menopause. “I was afraid that Ernst would think he had hit a pig in a poke. And I did think for a moment that he might leave me. We had just married and suddenly he had an unrecognizable wife who no longer feels like doing anything. had.”
The menopause also affected the sex life of Tensen and her husband. “I couldn’t think about sex,” she says. The presenter had arrived and was ashamed of her body. “I really didn’t want to make love with that body. I only undressed with the light off.”
Now that Tensen has “overcome” the menopause, she feels “better than ever”. With her book she hopes to do other women a service. “That also makes me feel good.”
