“Collective Tivoli 9 Avril Denounces Insurance Companies’ Lack of Compensation for Building Collapse Victims”

The collective Tivoli 9 avril, created after the collapse of buildings in Marseille, denounces “the bad will” of insurance companies in taking charge of the victims. Some of them still haven’t gotten anything. They are asking for the establishment of a comprehensive compensation agreement.

A real administrative headache. The hundreds of people who were affected by the collapse of two buildings, in the rue de Tivoli in Marseille on April 9, are angry. They believe that the insurance companies are “bad will” to unlock the expertise and compensation.

A total of 300 people are affected and a hundred of them have still not been able to return to their homes.

“We’ve changed hotels four times. We’re always calling the insurer, because if I hadn’t called, maybe he wouldn’t have renewed, maybe that he would have forgotten us. We always have to be behind them to be sure of having something to stay,” laments Laure, 34, who lived with her mother at 24 rue de Tivoli.

They ask for a framework agreement

Administrative difficulties that add to the drama experienced by everyone here. The victims decided to come together and created the Collective Tivoli 9 avril. It is through him that they denounce their very disparate care.

Insurance companies “hide behind fallacious arguments (complexity of each situation, waiting for expert reports, etc.) in order not to address the essential question: the establishment of a collective compensation agreement at the height of this dramatic event”, estimates the Collective in a press release.

He therefore calls for the creation of a framework agreement for all victims, and not individual compensation.

“We swim according to the goodwill of the insurance companies”

“We have 18 insurance companies at the moment. They pass the buck with the insurance of co-ownerships or trustees. It’s very difficult to know exactly who is entitled to what. There are people who don’t have had nothing for the moment, others who have had 2,000 euros in compensation. We swim according to the goodwill of the insurance companies”, denounces Lua Ciarabelli, one of the spokespersons for the collective.

The town hall of Marseille supports this request, but for the moment, it has remained unanswered by the services of the State.
