Slow Sales of Subsidized Electric Motorbikes in Jakarta: Evaluation Underway

Buyers of subsidized electric motorbikes are still relatively few. The government said that the electric motorbikes that were given subsidies were only selling hundreds of units. In fact, the quota reached 200,000 units for this year.

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said, 108 new electric motorbike subsidies were distributed. He said, this can be seen from the Sisipira application.

“There is an application called Siapira. The Sisipira application, every time we check the growth in the population buying motorcycles, in particular, how many of them are visible there. And if you want to buy, the requirements are there,” said Moeldoko in Green Economic Forum in Jakarta, Monday (22/5/2023).

“The problem is, the growth in motorcycle purchases, especially up to now, is still slow. Yesterday at the meeting on Friday, the growth was only 108 motorcycles that had just been purchased. The question is, why is there relief from the government, how come the public welcomes it like that? We are currently evaluating this. ,” he said.

On the other hand, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) reported that 381 units of subsidized electric motorbikes had been sold.

However, the figures mentioned by Moeldoko and the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries are different from those on the Sisipira website. Judging by detikcom, to this day no subsidized motorbikes have been distributed. In addition, only two units are in the process of being verified, and 492 units are in the registration process. Of the 200 thousand units prepared to receive subsidies, the remaining quota is still 199,506 units.

The electric motor will be given a subsidy of IDR 7 million per unit. The subsidy is given directly to buyers, not entrepreneurs, so that the price of electric motorbikes can be cheaper.

“There it is stated that it is a subsidy because there are certain requirements,” said Moeldoko.

The criteria for people who receive electric motorbike subsidies include people who have KUR, BPUM, BSU recipients, and/or electricity subsidy recipients.
