Anthony was the third pick by the Denver Nuggets in 2003 and helped the team to the Western Conference Finals in the 2008-09 season. In 2011, the Nuggets traded Anthony to the New York Knicks, where he stayed for six seasons. Towards the end of his career, “Carmelo” played for the Thunder, Rockets, Trail Blazers and the Lakers.
Anthony played with the US team four times at the Olympics and won the gold medal three times. Among other things, he was part of the legendary Redeem team. Anthony is a ten-time All-Star, was selected to the All-NBA team six times, and leaves the league as the ninth-best scorer.

Anthony said of his resignation on Twitter:
“I remember the days when I had nothing. Just a ball on a pitch with a dream of more. But basketball was my outlet. My purpose was strong, my community, the cities I was proud to represent and the Fans who have supported me along the way. I am forever grateful to these people and places because they made me Carmelo Anthony.”
“But now it’s time for me to say goodbye. … With this bittersweet farewell to the NBA, I’m excited to see what the future holds for me.”
