The Big Apple is experiencing a hot spring of art. In addition to the auctions, the Tefaf and Frieze trade fairs are currently running – with Austria taking part.
It’s art spring in New York and everyone is going. After the pandemic, the Big Apple is pulsating like it used to be for the first time this year. In a period of a good two weeks, a concentrated load of art ends up on the market. Auction houses hold their prestige auctions, the Tefaf art and antiques fair transformed the Park Avenue Armory into a jewel case last week with its exquisite offerings and floral displays typical of the fair, and this week an armada of satellite fairs, led by Frieze, are vying for favor the collector.
At the auctions, exceptional works were highly competitive and achieved correspondingly high prices. But there have been tougher years. The market has become more selective, which is related to the global economic situation.
