Vítězslav Lavička appointed as new head of Sparta youth academy

Vítězslav Lavička will become the new head of the youth academy in football Sparta. From June 1, he will replace Jaroslav Hřebík, another former coach of the Letne team, who will retire after 11 years. Sparta reported about it on the club website.

The 60-year-old Lavička will return to Sparta after almost eight years. He won seven league titles with the club as a player, adding another four later as an assistant coach.

As the head coach, he led Sparta twice and in the 2013/14 season he won the top competition and the cup with them.

“It’s a nice feeling to come back home after so many years. As a player and coach, I really experienced a lot at the club. I’m looking forward to my new role, to working with all the people in our academy, in the whole club and with our fans,” he said Lavička, who led Sparta to the last title so far.

Letenští can end the nine-year wait for another triumph already this week, with two rounds before the end of the competition, they have a five-point lead over the second Slavia.

“Vítězslav Lavička is a personality with rich coaching experience, which he can pass on to the next generations of coaches and players at the academy in Strahov,” said the club’s sports director Tomáš Rosický.

“The key role of the person at the head of the academy is to educate and develop the coaches and everyone else who is involved in the running of Strahov. We are convinced that he is the right choice for this position,” added Rosický.

Lavička also led the national team in the past, twice becoming the Czech coach of the year.

He also won the championship with Liberec and in the Australian league with FC Sydney. He last coached the Kuwait national team last year.
