NAACP Issues Travel Warning for Florida Due to Discriminatory Laws

The civil rights movement NAACP warns African Americans and other minorities against traveling to Florida.

The background: In Florida, schools are no longer allowed to teach certain approaches to slavery, sexuality and diversity. For example, at one high school, the advanced course in African-American Studies was banned. The rules for migrants have also been tightened, which means that undocumented migrants are no longer allowed to drive in Florida, for example.

The NAACP says Florida is openly hostile to African Americans, people of color, and the LGBTQIA+ community. Many people therefore fear that they will soon no longer be accepted.

Florida Travel Warning: NAACP Criticizes Gov. DeSantis

According to the NAACP, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis wants to erase black history and limit diversity, equity and inclusion in Florida’s schools. That’s why she now issued the travel warning. They are not the first to do so: because of the discriminatory laws, other organizations had already done so. The governor has not yet commented on the matter.

The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) is a major civil rights movement in the United States that advocates for the rights of colored minorities in the country.

Florida was also recently criticized for the death penalty:

In the state of Florida, eight out of twelve jury votes will be enough to pronounce the death penalty.
