“Pecco Bagnaia Clarifies Controversial Statement on Satellite Teams and Safety in MotoGP”

Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia opens up about his controversial statement about satellite teams that need to be limited. According to him, it was not meant to belittle the satellite team, but MotoGP had to fix an unsafe situation because it was prone to accidents in the early laps.

Pecco Bagnaia, who said that there was a difference in technical support between the factory team and the satellite team. He said that in this way, the number of accidents could be reduced and the competition would not be too fierce.

Motor performance between the satellite team and the factory team is now equal so that anyone has a chance to become a champion. He said racers who had no chance of winning could compete quickly at the start of the race, so that became one of the contributing factors to the more frequent crashes of racers.

“What was published was out of context because of the interpretations made by some people. I was asked about safety and the reason for the increase in accidents and I was just trying to make an analogy and say that this has not happened before,” said Bagnaia quoted from MotoGP, Monday (22/5/ 2023).

“I think many years ago there was less contact because there was a big difference between the top riders and the others. Now things are much tighter. I went to MotoGP with a satellite team. How would I suggest creating a gap between the work bike and the satellite bike?” he continued.

Bagnaia was surprised that his words became controversial, he was even sprayed by Tech3 Boss and IRTA President, Herve Poncharal, who said to lock your tongue seven times before speaking.

“After Le Mans, I was cut off for three days, without a phone, and when I reconnected I saw the controversy that was caused with Poncharal, magnified by the official website of the championship,” said Bagnaia.

“The snowball is getting bigger and bigger, anytime, I make a comment to create controversy. On the contrary, I am aware that this is a very serious issue like security. Unfortunately, we are entering a dynamic where some people would rather seek controversy than talk about who won or the beautiful fight that happened in his path,” he continued.

Bagnaia is now tired. He doesn’t want to talk anymore beyond his capacity as a racer.

“Recently there has been too much talk about things that are not in my competence. I am a racer, I am in love with this sport and my only goal is to win races and work with my team. From now on I will only talk about sport , which I know best, and I leave the rest to others,” said Bagnaia.

“I’m tired of having to justify every word taken out of context as a pretext to open up controversy,” he explained.
