The ceremony honored two creators from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who are the Saudi actress, director and writer Fatima Al-Banawi, who won international and local acclaim since her first starring “Barakah Meets Barakah” in 2016 AD, until the most recent one, “Al-Hamour” 2023, in addition to honoring the Saudi actress Mila Al-Zahrani, who participated in the movie starring “The Candidate”, and she is expected to appear in the horror movie “Cello”, which was filmed in the Kingdom, so that Mila Al-Zahrani’s credits so far include 16 TV series and 4 films.
Jumana Al-Rashed, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Red Sea International Film Festival Foundation, stated that the role of women in the international film industry has not yet taken the position it deserves, but it is encouraging to see a record number of works directed by women filmmakers in the official competition at Cannes Festival this year, expressing She expressed her happiness with the presence of two of the six women’s films participating in the competition, including two women who received support from the Red Sea International Film Festival. For his part, CEO of the Red Sea International Film Festival Foundation, Mohammed Al-Turki, said that we aim, through programs to support, develop and finance films, to help increase the number of women in front of and behind the camera, and to present touching stories led by women towards brilliance on the silver screen.
