The Story behind the One-Eye Statue in Jeddah: Caesar Baldaccini’s Artwork in Saudi Arabia

In fact, the one-eyed statue is one of a series of art created by the sculptural architect, Frenchman Cesar Baldaccini. Not only the eyes, there are two statues of other limbs located at the Al Hamra Open Air Museum. First this statue (The Eye), then there’s ‘The Thumb’, and ‘The Fist’.

The statue ‘The Eye’ was made in 1921. The material used in making this one eye statue is bronze. The one eye statue ‘The Eye’ has a height of 500 cm or 5 meters.

At that time, Mohamed Said Farsi Mayor and City Planner of Jeddah in 1972-1986 was the one who created this idea. He even traveled around the world, such as Brussels, Paris, Rome, Cairo, Helsinki, Madrid to Jakarta in order to find artists he felt fit to build the art gallery.

Of all the artists, one of them was the chosen one, Caesar Baldaccini. One of the best known, Baldaccini created ‘The Thumb’ or ‘Thumb’ out of 70 tons of marble, referring to his admiration for God’s ability to create unique fingerprints for each human being.

In conclusion, the one-eyed sculpture ‘The Eye’ in Jeddah is one of three works by French artist Caesar Baldaccini. There is no explanation linking this statue as a symbol of Dajjal or illuminati.
