As the politician of the occupying country noted, one third of Poland’s territories are areas with developed infrastructure, industrial enterprises, and are also rich in natural resources. According to him, these territories became part of it “thanks to Russia.”
“In the post-war period, the Soviet people, tearing themselves away from themselves, spent more than 750 billion dollars on the restoration and development of Poland, according to today’s estimates … Poland exists as a state only thanks to our country,” Volodin said.
The politician reproached Poland for demolishing monuments to Soviet soldiers, closing Russian schools and “stealing Russia’s property.”
“Poland must return the territories acquired as a result of World War II and reimburse our country for the funds spent on it in the war and post-war years,” the speaker of the Russian State Duma added.
Occupation of Poland by the Soviet army
It is worth recalling that at the beginning of World War II, on September 17, after the Nazi Germany attacked Poland, the Soviet army invaded Polish territory at 5 am without declaring war, which led to the complete occupation of the country by the Red Army and the Wehrmacht.
By his act, the USSR violated a number of treaties:
- peace treaties with Poland;
- a protocol on the early entry into force of the Briand-Kellogg Act, which prohibits the use of war as an instrument of national policy;
- a non-aggression pact between the USSR and Poland, as well as a protocol that extended the pact;
- a communiqué issued by Poland and the Soviet government in 1938, which confirmed that the non-aggression pact was the basis of peaceful relations between countries.
