“Chartrains pull off stunning comeback to reach quarters against formidable US Salles: match preview”

Chartres got scared in the round of 16, against Peyrehorade. But the CCR got away with it, with bite, in the additional time of the return match. Proof that this team, which this season has always had the ambition to reach the next level, can turn around sometimes complex situations.

After a defeat in the first leg (26-24), the Chartrains managed, in the dying seconds of the return match, to sneak into the quarterfinals (26-23). “These are matches that you have to play until the last second, we know that and we saw it against Peyrehorade,” said coach Renaud Gourdon, who had just arrived last night with his staff at Salles, located south of Bordeaux.

“We have worked and we are ready”

Once the euphoria passed, the CCR therefore projected itself, all week, on a new adversary, the Girondins of the US Salles which, at first sight, has everything of a big piece. “It’s a solid team in front and very organized behind, analyzed a confident Chartrain coach. We have worked and we are ready. »

Promoted to Fédérale 1 this season thanks to a remarkable career in 2021-2022 (the Girondins had been eliminated in the quarter-finals against Isle-Jourdain), Salles has chained good performances this season, like their victory without trembling against Nuits-Saint-Georges in the eighth (victories 24-13 in Burgundy in the first leg, 41-20 in the return). In the regular season, the Sallois elbowed with Mauléon and Langon, to finally take second place in Pool 4 (15 wins, 7 losses).

Put the package before the first leg

This Sunday, the CCR will especially face a team which has been full of confidence in recent weeks and which remains on three consecutive victories.
In order to optimize its chances of going up to National 2 – the four semi-finalists reach the next level – Chartres will have to put the package in Gironde in order to approach the return match with a light spirit, and avoid being scared.
