How bitter! The TG Friedberg cannot use their seven-goal cushion from the first leg of the promotion games to the national handball league.
(pls). Incredible emptiness, players who bury their heads in their jerseys and look almost frozen. On Saturday evening, the TG Friedberg experienced in the all-important second leg for promotion to the middle men’s handball league in the most bitter way how cruel the sport can sometimes be. In the end, the team of TG trainer Micha Razen lost 30:37 (17:15) to TSG Münster II in front of 700 spectators in Kelkheim’s Eichendorfhalle. Munster II caught up with the seven-goal mortgage from the first leg and finally – due to a single (!) more away goal – was able to celebrate their return to the association level after a ten-year absence.
In the year of the club’s 140th anniversary, TSG recorded a double promotion. Three players from the hosts were involved in the rise of the first team to the Oberliga two weeks ago.
TG coach Razen was deeply affected after the encounter and struggled for words: “The emotional state is crappy. Today we were the better team for 40 minutes and pretty much had everything under control. Our cover was good and the withdrawal behavior was great. It just hurts.” Regarding the away goals rule, which was one of the townsfolk’s undoings, he announced: “Rules are what they are. We can’t change anything there. It was abolished in football, but not in handball.«
For a long time it seemed that it would be a day of celebration for the supporters of TG Friedberg. The Razen team was accompanied by an entourage of around 150 loud fans, equipped with club-made gossip papers, who really heated up the game 90 minutes before the game. In the hall, both camps did not reveal any weaknesses and brought the “blue hell” to a boil. In terms of mood and the referee cast, the match was ready for the premier league. From a sporting point of view, a tough but not overly tough game developed from the start. Technical mistakes, more nervousness and, above all, the mentality were decisive in the game.
The home seven got off to a good start and Julien Sorhagen (best thrower of the day), who was still missing in the first leg, scored to give TSG an early three-goal lead – 4:1 (6th). But the TG worked its way in, remained assertive and went in front for the first time – 11:10 (17th). Also thanks to goalkeeper Radu Balazs, the guest took the two-goal lead into the break. At this point, Philipp Engel had already had to be replaced. The TGF motor was eliminated with a torn muscle fiber (15th).
From the 40th minute, however, the momentum changed abruptly. »Münster acted with open cover. That pulled the plug on us,” Razen remarked. In addition, the guests could not get Alexander Molzahn under control.
Poor passes en masse and weak shots by Friedberger as well as the brutally strong speed handball of TSG in combination – on this memorable handball evening it was the neck of the guests who fell into a valley of tears with the final siren, while all the dams broke in Münster.
