The first of a series of measures to address the issue of prison overcrowding was implemented yesterday by decision of the Council of Ministers, according to an official announcement.
During yesterday’s session Ministryand after a recommendation from the Minister of Justice and Public Order to the Ministry of Finance, it was decided to exception of prison guards from the requirement of passing government exams during their recruitment process.
According to the decision, candidates for the recruitment of prison guards will now undergo special examinations.
Exemption from the government exams was a constant request of the prison guards and was raised, among other requests, in the recent meeting of the Minister of Justice, Anna Koukkidis Prokopiou, with a delegation of the Prison Personnel branch of PASYDY.
With the satisfaction of the request, it is expected that the process of hiring prison guards will be facilitated and the problem of staffing will be solved by covering service needs in prisons.
