An airport employee sustained injuries in an accident on Saturday (May 20, 2023) at Zurich Airport.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., a 57-year-old man drove a car in the airport area on Bravostrasse in the direction of Kloten.
For currently unexplained reasons, he drove straight ahead in a right-hand bend, crashed through the security fence, drove down an embankment and came to a standstill in the creek bed of the Himmelbach.
The driver was looked after by the first responders of the airport fire brigade and freed from the vehicle after the first medical aid.
He was taken to a hospital by ambulance with unspecified serious injuries. The passenger car was totaled.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Zurich cantonal police and the public prosecutor’s office. A medical problem on the part of the driver cannot currently be ruled out.
Flight operations and security at Zurich Airport were not affected at any time.
Together with the Zurich canton police, the Zurich Airport professional fire brigade from Schutz & Rescue Zurich SRZ, a rescue team with an emergency doctor from the Bülach hospital, the Winterthur/Unterland public prosecutor’s office, employees from Zurich Airport and one private towing and crane company each were on duty.
