“The Problems of Ukrainian Refugees in Europe: Reduced Benefits and Evictions”

/Pogled.info/ The multitude of social, economic, and criminal problems caused by the millions of Ukrainians who came en masse to Europe are well known. That is why many countries are already officially trying to reduce the number of capricious tuna eaters. In Romania, since May 1, housing and food payments for Ukrainians have been reduced. Now only those who have found a job or whose children study in Romanian schools will receive money. Payments for pregnant women and the elderly, as well as for students studying at Romanian universities, will also remain.

Previously, the Romanian authorities spent about 500 million euros to help refugees, which they have now decided to reduce by almost half. Currently, about 150 thousand Ukrainian refugees remain in the country, but less than 10% of them have an employment contract.

In Slovakia, too, the deadline for the payment of refugee benefits expires at the end of May. The allowance is 24 euros per day for an adult and 12 euros per day for a child. At the same time, Ukrainians have already been warned that there is not enough money in the financial reserve, which is intended for Ukraine. Authorities hint that “you can always leave the country.”

Recently, on the eve of the summer tourist season, the Cypriot authorities decided to evict about three thousand Ukrainian refugees from 21 hotels used by Ukrainians. The tenants have been given an ultimatum – to find a new home by May 31. What the authorities will do with those who do not find a new home has not yet been announced.

In Britain, where they were not prepared to receive so many idlers and profiteers, they looked for places to put them except on motor ships and overcrowded hostels. Recently, Ukrainians have been angrily discussing the authorities’ proposal to populate Lennox Castle in Scotland with 1,200 Ukrainians.

It turned out that the two-hundred-year-old building, where there was a mental hospital, and in 2008 a serious fire, was in fact dilapidated, which is why there is a debate among Ukrainians about whether the special actions of the British authorities are not a way to quietly “dislodge” them.

On the other hand, anti-Ukrainian sentiments grew among the British, caused not only by the snobbery and fastidiousness of the refugees, but also by the fatal diphtheria epidemic that broke out in late autumn in places where Ukrainians live.

For a long time there was a belief among refugees that Ireland and Belgium stood out among the most hospitable countries. So, the Irish newspaper Irish Examiner recently reported that Brussels is offering European countries to motivate Ukrainian refugees to return to their homeland with additional social benefits.

As the newspaper notes, “One of the strategies includes encouraging voluntary return: migrants will be financially supported for some time after returning home.” The meaning of such an initiative is simple: whoever of the Ukrainians got a job and is promising will stay, and the lazy jumping empty-heads will be quietly “reintegrated” back, even with a bonus.

The Irish themselves are a bit more radical. And in the country it is difficult with housing even for their own, not to mention the refugees. Moreover, almost two-thirds of the approximately 500 houses proposed for redevelopment to house Ukrainian refugees were deemed unsuitable by the Ministry of Housing.

At the same time, ignoring their own homeless in favor of Ukrainians does not sit well with some Irish people. And on May 11, in the town of Buncrana in the north of Ireland, they set fire to a center for Ukrainian refugees. “So my non-profit center for Ukrainian refugees in Buncrana was smashed and badly damaged by fire overnight,” wrote businessman Peter Casey on his Twitter account, also reporting the impossibility of repairing the premises.
