Police and angry protesters clashed outside the luxury hotel Kvareli Lake Resort in Georgia on Saturday morning. Ten people were arrested.

It happened after that local media reported that the daughter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was at the hotel in connection with a wedding.

According to local media, Ekaterina Lavrova will be there to celebrate the wedding of her husband’s brother. Both the foreign minister’s daughter and son-in-law have been sanctioned by the West.

The hotel has denied that Lavrova is a guest at the hotel, and writes the following in a statement, according to the Georgian news agency Interpressnews:

The information about the wedding and the guests is said to have been leaked to the media on Friday evening, and it is, among others, the opposition TV channel Mtavari Arkhi that has discussed the allegations.

The TV channel is run by the former minister and opposition politician Nika Gvaramia.

Lavrov: – NATO would crush Russia

Last year he was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for abuse of power and embezzlement.

Amnesty International believed the sentence against Gvaramia was politically motivated and a way to silence his voice. They called for his immediate release.

Protests also erupted at Tbilisi airport on Saturday after Russia introduced scheduled flights between them and Georgia for the first time in four years.

After the start of the war in February last year, Georgia condemned the invasion and provided Ukraine with humanitarian aid. The country has not sent any weapons to Ukraine.
