Judge Andrey Georgiev Criticizes the Chief Prosecutor’s Office in Bulgaria

“An institution such as the chief prosecutor’s office does not exist in Bulgaria, why the chief prosecutor is needed is not clear, what his functions should be,” Judge Andrey Georgiev of the Sofia District Court told BNT.

According to him, the image of the judiciary is being shown, of which the citizens are ashamed.

“It has long been commented on Geshev’s participation in dubious investigations that have an unclear end result, his desire for excessive publicity, which is not a normal thing in a criminal investigation. The prosecutor’s office imposes excessive publicity at an early stage of an investigation,” Andrey Georgiev added.

According to him, details of the investigation should not have been disclosed during the assassination attempt against the chief prosecutor.

“Discrepancies have started to appear. When we have a total inadequacy of public communication, which turns from an attempt to inform people into a fight between personalities who will keep their post, it means that all these personalities have to go,” commented Andrey Georgiev .

He emphasized that it is not necessary to simply change the people, but the rules.

“The change in the rules goes through a complete change of the model of judicial power enshrined in the Constitution,” Andrey Georgiev also said.
