MORELIA, Mich., May 20, 2023.- Canine and feline vaccination has made it possible to reduce cases of rabies transmitted to humans in the state, which is totally free and the biological applied is of the highest quality, safe for pets.
A press release indicates that, from January to date, the Michoacán Health Secretariat (SSM) has managed to apply 124,546 doses of rabies vaccine, which has allowed dogs and cats to be protected against this disease.
The health jurisdictions with the highest incidence of immunization are Apatzingán with 27,334, followed by Uruapan with 23,234, Lázaro Cárdenas with 21,241 and Zamora with 14,472.
This action contributes to interrupting the transmission of the rabies virus in dogs and cats, and therefore in humans, so that there have been no cases (canine rabies) in the state since 2013.
The health authority reminds that pets must be vaccinated from three months of age and it is only once a year. Dogs and cats that are exposed to contact with some other wild animal must be protected.
Dogs and cats that are pregnant or lactating can be vaccinated, only those that are pregnant, undergoing medical treatment for a disease, just out of surgery or with some immunosuppression cannot be vaccinated.
