Fundación Besares has worked in various areas of social interest, mainly in culture, education and health since its creation in 1989. Between 2012 and 2017 the foundation functioned as a cultural center, taking advantage of its headquarters located in the Núñez neighborhood to support art. independent and emerging through exhibitions, recitals, workshops, readings, a film club, multidisciplinary meetings and other activities in the cultural field. Starting in 2018, the foundation set out to finance artistic production through a new project: Disco Solidario.
Disco Solidario is a platform through which independent musicians in Buenos Aires can finance the recording of their albums by teaching music classes in deprived neighborhoods. The foundation summons musicians who have experience in teaching through open calls on social networks. The selected artists receive a scholarship so that they can record their albums and in exchange they give workshops and music classes in support houses with which Fundación Besares has an agreement. The foundation also connects musicians with producers, engineers and recording studios deemed appropriate for the artist’s specific project. In this way, Fundación Besares also contributes to the development of the activities of recording professionals.
Through this program, children have the opportunity to broaden their contact with art, receiving new stimuli for their personal and cultural development, and social inclusion. Music workshops are valuable for providing support, promoting collaborative work and the exchange of ideas, and putting children in direct contact with a unique space, where the stimulation of creativity and enjoyment are combined, and which is often they have no access.
This is a unique opportunity not only for children but also for artists who can feel the recognition for their contribution in a special way. In his words:
“I think that all these albums that have been and are going to be recorded have added value because we are not only fulfilling our dream, but we are also leaving our mark. We are sharing our time and our love of music with others.” Isabella Saenz
“It is an enormous gift to be able to be making (the record) with the support of the Besares Foundation, and to feel in a tangible way that I can make a social contribution and that my art can be a vehicle for social transformation” Misi Andrenacci.
From the foundation we are making efforts to continue growing with a project that from 2018 to today has made it possible to record nine albums and has resulted in hundreds of hours of classes in allied support houses, such as Casita del Niño in Ricón de Milberg, Casa Rafael in La Boca, Umbrales Association in San Isidro, Casita del Niño Esperanza in La Plata, among others. Seeking to take the project to more and more musicians and children, we want to build new bridges with more solidarity institutions and obtain greater financing and visibility to expand the project. In 2021, the project was selected by the CABA Patronage program through which it received a contribution from the Itaú Foundation, which made it possible to record a video clip in addition to the album for the artists selected in that edition. In 2023 we launched the annex project “Recording and Creation of My Song” whose objective is for children to compose and record a song as a result of the workshop, and thus they can be protagonists on an equal footing with the selected artists.
The mission of Fundación Besares is to put two worlds in contact: that of children from the most neglected sectors of society with that of artists who need financial support to carry out their work. In this way, a virtuous circle is created where art becomes a vehicle for social transformation and cultural development.
