Slovak ice hockey players have played their fourth game at the world championships. They faced the strongest opponent so far, which was also shown on the ice. They lost 2:4 to Switzerland and had only 13 shots on goal. How did coach Craig Ramsay evaluate the duel?

VIDEO: Slovaks assess the loss to Switzerland: We are not built for the game…

From the beginning, the Slovaks kept pace with their favored opponent, created chances and the game was relatively balanced. “We had a great start, even better than we expected, we played against a really top team with a great system. We attacked them, we had chances.

At the end of the first period, however, we started to play worse, we did not deal with situations as we should have, we were under pressure. In addition, Mário Grman also dropped out. Our goalkeeper was excellent, he gave us a chance to win.” reviewed by Craig Ramsay.

The Swiss showed their strength especially in the third period when they took a 3:2 lead. They didn’t let the Slovaks do anything and almost all the time they played only in attack. “They were great in midfield, but even better in attack. When we got into the attacking zone, we were able to create good chances, although not as many as they did. It’s much easier to play in attack than in defense.”

Since the start of the championship, Craig Ramsay says the players need to shoot more. How did he comment that they only had 13 shots? “I have to give credit to the Swiss. They were fast, strong on the puck. But once again we had chances to shoot and we didn’t take them. We are really good people and we want to give the puck to someone else so they can score.

The players will hopefully get a good night’s rest and come to the next match wanting to be scorers and not playmakers. They will shoot whenever they can and they learned it because they didn’t shoot often enough. It’s simple, you need to shoot more.

We want to be good, nice guys, but to be a good hockey player, you have to be selfish. Get into a position from which you can and will shoot. One time you score a goal and the other time someone scores from the crossbar and they’re just as happy as if you passed them for a goal. Hockey is a simple game. If we play it simply, we have a chance.” challenges Craig Ramsay to his charges before the duel against Kazakhstan, which is scheduled for Friday at 19:20.

We can probably expect changes in the lineup. Defender Mário Grman and striker Peter Cehlárik will not start the match due to injury. The coaches have already tried to mix attacks against the Swiss. “We tried to mix up the formations to bring a spark to the team and find new combinations that could work,” crooned Craig Ramsay.
