Get to know the eight planets in the solar system, from their order to their characteristics.
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – This solar system consists of the sun surrounded by several planets and other space objects. There are eight major planets that are known to orbit the sun. Let’s get to know the eight planets of the solar system along with their characteristics and order.
The names of the planets in the solar system along with the order of the planets in the solar system must have been widely known because we learned them when we were in school. The eight planets in the solar system and their order from closest to the sun and farthest from the sun are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
But many forget about its characteristics. Even though some planets have characteristics that clearly distinguish them from other planets. Therefore, below we will discuss again the names of the planets in the solar system, the characteristics of the planets, and the order of the planets in the solar system.
1. Mercury
Mercury is the planet in the solar system that is closest to the sun. Therefore this planet can be seen with the naked eye in the morning. That’s why Mercury has the nicknames Evening Star and Morning Star.
This planet is also the smallest. Due to its proximity to the sun, Mercury goes around the sun in just 88 days. Meanwhile, Mercury rotates in 58 days and 16 hours. Because of its close proximity to the sun, this planet is uninhabitable.
Because this planet has drastic air changes. During the day the temperature can reach 450° Celsius, while at night the planet’s temperature reaches minus 180°C. Mercury’s atmosphere is also thin and the planet’s surface is riddled with craters.
2. Venus
The planet in the solar system that is the second closest to the Sun is Venus. Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system. Its thick, highly toxic atmosphere consisting of clouds of sulfuric acid makes the planet uninhabitable. That’s because the average temperature on the surface of Venus is 465°C.
Venus is sometimes referred to as Earth’s twin because of its similar size and radar images under its atmosphere reveal many mountains and volcanoes. But beyond that, the planet is very different from the earth. The nickname of the planet Venus is the Morning Star, the Morning Star, or the Morning Star.
To go around the Sun, Venus takes 225 days, while for this planet’s rotation time it takes 243 days.
3. Earth
Earth is the third planet from the sun. Earth is the only world known to harbor life because two-thirds of the planet is covered in water and its atmosphere is rich in nitrogen and oxygen.
The name Earth comes from the German word, “Die Erde” which means land. The time it takes the earth to rotate is 23 hours 56 minutes. While the revolution time takes 365 ¼ days.
4. Mars
The next planet in the solar system is the planet Mars. Mars got the nickname the Red Planet. That’s because the planet has a desert-like surface covered in iron oxide dust that gives the planet its red hue. Mars has similarities with Earth, which is rocky, has mountains, valleys and canyons.
There has been evidence that the surface of Mars was wetter in the past, with traces of rivers or sea remains and the atmosphere was somewhat warm. Scientists also think ancient Mars had the conditions to support life like bacteria and other microbes. With the discovery of traces of life in the past, Mars is one of the most explored planets in the solar system.
Mars takes 25 hours to rotate. Meanwhile, to evolve, this planet takes 687 days.
