Processing security information: Journalists trained in the use of the reporting guide

The Center for Security Sector Governance, Geneva (DCAF) initiated a training workshop for media actors on the use of the guide to reporting on the security sector. The opening of the workshop took place on Monday May 15, 2023 in Bobo-Dioulasso.

It is in view of the security situation currently prevailing in Burkina Faso, where journalistic productions on information related to the security sector and terrorist attacks remain a challenge for information professionals, that this present was initiated in order to better equip media players.

The main objective of this training initiated by DCAF in collaboration with the General Directorate of Media and the High Council for Communication, is to improve professionalism, sensitivity to conflicts among media players as well as the promotion of peace and of social cohesion according to Sadou Sidibé, National Secretary of DCAF Burkina. Still according to him, “The major results expected are the improvement of participants’ knowledge of the principles of reporting on the security sector, but also allowing participants to become acquainted with the advice sheets for reporting on security issues, advice sheets for reports on security service operators and advice sheets for sharing on security management and monitoring”.

In view of the importance of the theme, the High Council for Communication and the General Directorate of the Media have invited the participants, mainly journalists, to follow up on the various modules that will be developed during the training period, from 15 to May 17, 2023.
