“ILO Recommends Human-Centered Approach for Sustainable Aviation Industry”

The International Labor Organization (ILO) recommends that the ‘aviation industry’ be ‘workers’ centric. To promote decent work and ensure the sustainability of the aviation sector.

19 May 2023 From the pandemic of COVID-19 has had an unprecedented impact on the civil aviation industry. The International Labor Organization (ILO) has therefore issued a recommendation. The new recommendation emphasizes the need for a human-centered approach to preserving jobs and skills. as well as attracting and retaining aviation personnel. It was a result of the Technical meeting on a green, sustainable and inclusive economic recovery for the civil aviation sector.

Participants agreed that one way to achieve that goal was to Is to strengthen the management of labor. labor inspection system and promoting a safe and healthy working environment, as well as a “fair culture”. In addition, significant investments are needed to facilitate the industry’s transition towards environmental sustainability.

The conclusions and recommendations made at the meeting also reflect the aviation industry’s commitment to promoting fundamental principles and the right to work for all. Commit to addressing gender imbalances throughout the employment cycle. including through recruitment promote development opportunities and closing the gender pay gap.

The meeting asked the ILO to strengthen cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), with the ILO-ICAO agreement signed in 2022 as the basis for this mission. Participants urged the ILO and ICAO to consult with tripartite organizations (government, employer representatives, and worker representatives) to assess the need for efficient labor for the aviation sector. It focuses on key issues of occupational health and safety concerns, such as the working hours and breaks of workers in the aviation sector.

The ILO has also been asked to conduct research on the recruitment and retention of aviation workers. This includes the possibility of convening specialist meetings or other forms of intervention to resolve issues for aviation workers.

Conclusions and recommendations for this aviation sector Endorsed by 140 participants of the Technical Conference on Green, Sustainable and Comprehensive Economic Recovery for the Civil Aviation Sector held from April 24-28, 2023 at the ILO headquarters in Geneva.
