The tragic story of the newlyweds Samantha Miller and Aric Hutchinson has gone around the world.
On their way home from their own wedding celebration in Folly Beach, South Carolina on April 28, they were hit from behind.
The golf cart they were in is said to have been thrown over 90 meters away, and Samantha (34), who was still wearing her wedding dress, was killed. Aric (36) was admitted to hospital with serious injuries.
A 25-year-old woman has been charged with drunken driving and negligent homicide following the fatal accident.
Now the groom says that the wedding night was one of the best evenings of his entire life.
– She was so happy. I mean, planning a wedding is, as most people know, extremely stressful. But she just had a strange calmness that evening, he says in an interview with the programme «Good morning America».
ABC has so far only published a small taste of the interview, which will be broadcast on Friday morning local time.
Aric Hutchinson also attended a memorial service for his wife in Folly Beach this weekend, writes CBS.
Earlier on Thursday, it became known that the widower has taken legal action against the woman who crashed into the couple’s golf cart. He has also taken legal action against the bars that served her in the hours before the fatal accident.
In the lawsuit, Hutchinson’s lawyers write that the incident turned an “adventurous love story into an unimaginable tragedy”, write CBS.
The lawyer for the woman charged in the case, Christopher Gramiccioni, says NBC News that he does not represent her in the civil action by the widower.
– We cannot imagine what the families are going through, and they have our deepest sympathy. We ask that you do not rush and pre-judge the matter, he says in a statement to the channel.
