An embezzling district judge
“In the disciplinary case of former Vaal district judge Dezső Dinnyés, about which we already reported in detail in the last issue of our newspaper, the final court hearing continued on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday, and despite the enormous amount of material, it was concluded.
The trial went very smoothly, without any interesting moments. The individual embezzlements, carried out continuously for 8 years, followed in quick succession, all of which Dinnyés admitted to. This is how it became possible for the presiding dr. Máder Ferencz was able to finish the evidentiary proceedings before it was the turn of the plaintiffs.
Sándor Újházi, the representative of the prosecution, is asking for a severe punishment for the accused, who committed so many serious crimes at the height of the judge’s seat, while judging the property and honor of others, for the crime of 23 counts of embezzlement and 3 counts of falsification of public documents. There are no mitigating circumstances, apart from the fact that the damage has been compensated, but all the more aggravating circumstances,” wrote the Székesfehérvár és Vidéke newspaper on May 18, 1893. Dinnyés was finally sentenced to 7 years in prison, 10 years of deprivation of office and the suspension of the exercise of political rights.
