PREGNANCY COMPANY – Eleven-year-old Ricardo from Drachten did not hesitate for a moment when he saw an 86-year-old man lying in the water with his scooter mobile. He kicked off his shoes and jumped into the ditch.
The accident took place along the Kromme Wyk near Drachtstercompagnie. The victim was driving along the path a few moments before without any problems. He got distracted and braked, after which his wife, who was driving behind him, crashed into him. Due to this collision, the scooter roll of the 86-year-old man tipped over and he ended up in the ditch.
Shortly after everything happened, Ricardo and his mother drove past the place on their way home after a day at Strandheem. The mother immediately stopped the car and decided to call 911. At that moment Ricardo shouted that the man must be taken out of the water and he jumped into the water.
Together with two men they managed to get the man out of the ditch with a pull strap. The man was still quite approachable but had become slightly hypothermic. He was eventually taken to hospital by ambulance.
The fire brigade, who was called to the accident, later fished the scooter out of the water.
Once home, Ricardo got a hot shower to warm up again. His mother gave the man and a woman first aid until the ambulance arrived. Ricardo and his mother hope that the man is doing well. They have not yet heard anything about the outcome after the accident.
