The bubbles come from the neighborhood of De Ulenpas residential center on the Korte Wal. According to the regional broadcaster the residential center has 234 apartments. The police would have already spoken to a number of residents, but have not yet found the caller. Calling everywhere doesn’t make sense either. “Too many front doors,” says community police officer Bart Bosman.
What does not make the search any easier is that the bubbles can also come from the vicinity of the residential complex, for example the Arnhem district of Presikhaaf. “So our investigation is broader and we cannot just gauge all mobile phones, there are rules for that,” the local police officer told the broadcaster. “That makes finding the caller more difficult.”
No problems with 112
Although the woman has called very often, according to Bosman, this has not yet caused any acute problems at the helpline. “But the caller does occupy a line and that means someone else is on hold. And that is of course annoying in an emergency.”
The manager of the residential center ‘deems it unlikely that it is someone from De Ulenpas’. “I know everyone here.” He hopes that the caller will be found soon. “Those visits to the front door are not fun, because they immediately think they are suspects.”
More than one out of three calls to 112 was wrong last year
More than one in three calls made to emergency number 112 in 2022 were unjustified. The police reported this last month after questions from RTL Nieuws.
In 2022, the emergency number 112 was called almost 3.5 million times. 37 percent of these calls were not forwarded to the emergency services because they involved misuse or improper use of the emergency number.
Not all fake calls received by 112 fall under abuse. For example, apart from people calling to ask for attention or for fun, it also partly concerns pocket conversations.
