For the baptism of a new hamlet on the road to Roquettes, the name of Le Cacor was chosen by the municipal council because it already exists on the cadastre, but above all because it recalls the history of this hamlet with the support of department teams.
An approach to enhance and promote this beautiful area of Saubenois where the transition to a hamlet will also facilitate the planned development of road safety means on this departmental road. The Cacor is taken from the Occitan word “Capcors” designating the place where there were cofferdams (dike) on either side of a river for the creation of facilities on the water for a mill, a dam or even a channel. An older translation is that of a 4th century Roman graffiti “Secundinus cacor” (translated as “Secundinus the pain in the ass”), found by archaeologists near Hadrian’s Wall in the Vindolanda camp, north of England… but it probably has nothing to do with the name of this place!
