“Carlo Criticizes New Eurovision Rule and Calls for Jury Return: AVROTROS Responds”

During this edition, a new rule was introduced, so that the points of the professional jury no longer counted in the semi-finals. According to Carlo, that is where the criticism should lie. ‘Cause what does that mean? I heard the argument that some juries are too easy to buy. What does that say about that country, but also about, for example, the televoting that comes from such a country? Are they voting without sympathy for a neighboring country?’ he wonders.

Carlo admits that there were better songs than the Netherlands in the first semifinal. ‘But there were also countries that were much worse,’ he says. His conclusion is therefore that the jury should return. ‘So that quality songs still have a chance. And if a country cannot provide a bribed jury or it has been proven that fraud has taken place, then immediately exclude it for ten years.’

Although Mia and Dion scored a thirteenth place (out of fifteen) for the Netherlands in the semi-final, broadcaster AVROTROS – responsible for the entry – was still proud of the two. In the video below you can see what an AVROTROS spokesperson had to say about the Eurovision adventure.
