Taylor Lautner Reacts to Taylor Swift’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) Re-Release Rumors

Taylor Lautner, the actor and former flame of Taylor Swift, recently shared his reactions to the news of Swift’s re-released album, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), set to come out on July 7. During a conversation with TODAY.com to promote his joint podcast with his wife Taylor Dome, titled The Squeeze, Lautner admitted that he thinks it’s a great album and joked that he was “praying for John,” likely referring to John Mayer, who is said to be the subject of some of Swift’s more negative lyrics on the album.

Lautner and Swift dated for a few months in late 2009, and their breakup is rumored to have inspired the emotional song “Back to December” on the original Speak Now album. Despite their past, Lautner and Swift made amends at some point, with Lautner recalling fondly on The Squeeze podcast the time he presented the Best Female Video award to Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. During her acceptance speech for “You Belong With Me,” Kanye West interrupted Swift, claiming that Beyoncé should have won for “Single Ladies.” Despite the awkward moment, Swift and Lautner both laughed off their shared experience.

While there are rumors swirling on social media that Lautner may appear in a music video for one of the songs from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), nothing has been confirmed or announced. Swift’s re-release of her fourth studio album follows the release of Fearless (Taylor’s Version) earlier this year, which included six new tracks “snatched from the vault.” Similarly, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) will feature six additional songs that were previously unreleased.

In a tweet announcing the upcoming release, Swift remarked that Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) tells a “tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing… and living to speak about it.” She also noted that the songs from that time in her life were marked by their “brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions, and wild wistfulness.” Fans of Swift eagerly anticipate the re-release of another classic album, eager to hear Swift’s new take on old favorites and to enjoy new tracks previously unheard.
