It is an unusual and original place… This incredible house was decorated with thousands of mosaics by Raymond Isidore, nicknamed ”Picabaisse”, the Picasso of the plate.
For a quarter of a century, this man lived only to beautify his house. Probably an obsession, if we are to believe Tiphaine Herry, director of the Picassiette house: “It’s indeed obsessive, but it’s his life’s work, it’s his hobby and it’s what makes his days happy, joyful, colorful. It’s obsessive, he gets up at night to realize it. So yes, we can say that. »
Beauty, Raymond Isidore will have the revelation just before the Second World War: “He is attracted by the sparkle of pieces of broken crockery, of glass, which he will put in a corner of his garden without really knowing why. And one day in 1938, he comes home and says to his wife “I have an idea to decorate the house”. He will then caulk himself a little during the whole period of the Second World War, inside his house and decorate it, from the floor to the ceiling, passing by the sewing machine. His wife will say to him one day ”I will wake up and you will have covered me with mosaics”! ».
He likes colors, blue, green, yellow, is often inspired by religion, but not only. There is “obviously rosettes, roses from Chartres Cathedral, roses to Mary, Mother Nature in the garden, Pasteur and Landruadds Tiphaine Herry.
The Picassiette house, located in Chartres, depends on the city’s Fine Arts museum and is accessible from the A11 motorway.
