Russia’s Missile Attack on Ukraine Fails to Destroy Patriot Missile Defense System

Russia’s missile attack on Ukraine on Tuesday night did not destroy the Patriot missile defense system, as the Russian Defense Ministry said.

About this channel CNN US official said on condition of anonymity “European Truth”.

According to the official, the Russian missile strike could have damaged the Patriot air defense system, but its extent is still being assessed. This will determine if the system can be repaired locally, otherwise it will have to be shipped back to the US.

On Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said it hit a Patriot air defense system in Kiev with a “precision strike by a hypersonic Kinzhal missile system.” The Ukrainian side did not comment on Moscow’s claims, but noted that it had intercepted all six Kinzhals fired at Ukraine.

As is known, Russia has already attacked the American air defense system hypersonic missiles, in particular on May 4, but unsuccessfully. But the Ukrainian military, as confirmed by the Pentagon, intercepted a missile using the Patriot system.

The Patriot Missile System is equipped with a powerful radar to detect incoming targets at long range, making it a powerful air defense platform capable of intercepting ballistic missiles and more.

But the radar radiation needed to detect threats from a distance also allows an adversary to locate a Patriot battery and locate it. And unlike some of the less long-range air defense systems provided to Ukraine, which are mobile and more difficult to hit, the Patriot’s large battery is a fixed system, allowing the Russians to pinpoint its location over time.
