With more and more energy suppliers you can conclude long-term energy contracts again. On Monday, Vattenfall announced that it would again offer three-year contracts. On Tuesday, Budget Energie and Eneco followed suit.
Essent will also follow soon. Smaller energy suppliers such as Sepa Green and Innova Energie already offer contracts of three and even four years. The fixed energy contracts are available from 1 June.
Long-term contracts with energy suppliers were unavailable for a long time. With these contracts, the rates are fixed for a certain period.
Energy companies have not dared to do this since the war in Ukraine. They would then run the risk of having to supply energy at prices below their purchase prices.
Energy prices have been falling for months now. You can also take out permanent contracts with a term of one year. As of next month, it is therefore even possible to conclude contracts for several years.
The new rules for the cancellation penalty for fixed price contracts will also take effect on 1 June. The new rules make it much more expensive to cancel an energy contract. In the case of a multi-year contract, this could mean that you will lose a lot of money if you want to cancel your energy contract.
