Fileleftheros newspaper, in its news titled “Preparation for No Gaps in the Cyprus Problem”, wrote that since the election process in Turkey is drawing to a close, the Greek Cypriot government is making efforts to ensure that no gaps remain in the preparation stage for the negotiations for the solution of the Cyprus problem.

Stating that the Greek Cypriot government “sees some negative elements” in the Cyprus reports of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the newspaper emphasized that this issue was conveyed to Stewart by Christodoulidis in the meeting yesterday.
According to the news, Christodoulides stated in the UN Secretary General’s reports that no gaps or omissions should be allowed regarding the solution method, while Greek Cypriot Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letimbiotis said after the meeting that the Greek Cypriot government wanted a solution to the Cyprus problem on the basis of a bi-communal bi-zonal federation. He said he was fully prepared for the negotiations to start.
Letimbiotis reiterated his claim that more effective involvement of the EU will act as a catalyst for overcoming the current deadlock in the Cyprus issue, and that Christodoulides also conveyed his desire to hold a social meeting with President Ersin Tatar.
Asked whether the election results in Turkey would make any changes in Turkey’s policy regarding the Cyprus problem, Letimbiotis said; “The past has shown us that generally Turkey’s Cyprus policy has not changed with the change of its leadership,” he replied.
STEWART: “IN BRUSSELS, THERE IS SUPPORT TO GET A NEW MOMENTARY”
The newspaper reported that the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Cyprus, Stewart, said in a statement after the meeting that both he and Christodoulides saw the upcoming period, when the elections will end, as an opportunity.
“We both agreed that we are ready to do everything we can and do everything possible to move things forward,” said Stewart, who also answered questions about his contacts in Brussels.
Stating that he made his first contacts in Brussels and that it was an introductory visit, Stewart said, “There is great support in Brussels for the idea that the moment when we need to give a new impetus is very near”.
Stating that he conveyed the UN’s opinion that the EU is an important partner in Cyprus to the EU officials he met, Stewart said, “We are working hard together on confidence-building measures and the EU has always been an important political and technical partner, just like in the past. support,” he said.
Stewart concluded his statement by saying, “As you all know, participation in any negotiation, in any mediation process requires the consent of all parties.”
