U.S. retail sales rose less than economists expected in April, rising just 0.4% sequentially after falling 0.7% the previous month (revised from an initial estimate of -1%), according to the Department of Commerce.
Excluding the automotive sector (vehicles and equipment), US retail sales also increased by 0.4% last month compared to March, where the market consensus was expecting an increase of roughly the same order.
