“Fans Celebrate Jonas Hector and Timo Horn in Their Last Weeks with 1. FC Köln”

Jonas Hector and Timo Horn experience their last intense weeks with 1. FC Köln. Since it became clear that the duo is leaving the club in the summer, both have been celebrated by the fans every week. Despite safe relegation, a farewell game for the goalkeeper remains unlikely.

They are currently being showered with the love of the fans. Whether before or after the games – chants of “Jonas Hector” and “Timo Horn” echo through the stadiums again and again. “In fact, over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed how much sympathy I’m getting here,” Hector said recently 11friendsinterview and established the reasons: “Maybe it’s because players like me – or Timo Horn – embody certain values that fans like to see.”

After the 5-2 win over Hertha BSC, it was Horn in particular who was the center of attention for the supporters. The reason was the goalkeeper’s 30th birthday, which fell on the day of the home game. Accordingly, the fans on the south stand paid tribute to the man from Cologne and serenaded him with “Happy Birthday”.

Farewell game for Horn? Baumgart quarrels

For the duo, the last few weeks at FC have undoubtedly been intense with emotions that both of them will probably only be able to process properly after the season. While Hector can still perform on the pitch up to the 34th matchday, Timo Horn, on the other hand, has to keep watching. At least Steffen Baumgart did not promise the keeper a farewell game even after the safe relegation.

“It doesn’t look like it at the moment, time will tell about everything else,” the coach said on Monday. In the last away game, it’s practically nothing for either team. Nevertheless, Baumgart warned: “Bremen is still in the relegation battle.” If at all, Horn would consider the last day of the game. “If there should be a game where you say ‘thank you’ to Timo again, it should be Bayern Munich,” explained the 51-year-old.

But for Bayern, the last day of the game in Müngersdorf will in all probability be about the only remaining possible title: the German championship. “It’s all about the mark you put out there. And I don’t think it would be the right thing to do,” said Baumgart, but he’s not quite sure of his decision either: “Timo would have deserved it. That’s why we think about what we’re going to do and I’ll leave it open to the last day.”

The farewell will be loud for both of them

If Timo Horn were just any goalkeeper whose contract expired at the end of the season, 1. FC Köln would not even think about a farewell game, but would instead continue to rely on Marvin Schwäbe without hesitation. But Timo Horn is so much more than that for FC. “We know what he has achieved and what kind of character he brought to the team,” said the FC coach.

And so the question remains until May 27th: will Timo Horn leave FC through the front door like Jonas Hector? Or will it be a quieter farewell through the back door for the homegrown player with only two competitive games in the last year and a half? Either way: The farewell will be loud for both of them – with a boisterous celebration in front of the south stand.
