Turks in Berlin Prepare for Presidential Runoff Election in Turkey

Turks living in Berlin can go to the ballot box again from next Saturday. Because no candidate achieved the necessary absolute majority in the presidential election in Turkey, there is a runoff between incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu. In Turkey there will be elections on May 28th.

The voting location in Berlin is again the Turkish consulate on Heerstrasse in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. About 100,000 people with Turkish passports are entitled to vote.

According to the chairman of the electoral commission, Ahmet Yener, Erdogan received 49.51 percent of the votes in Turkey, Kilicdaroglu received 44.88 percent and the third candidate Sinan Ogan 5.17 percent. In the last election in 2018, Erdogan won with 52.6 percent of the votes.
