The leader of the mercenary group Wagner denied a fiery new report from the Washington Post that claimed he had offered to share intelligence with Ukraine on Russian army positions in exchange for Kiev withdrawing its forces from the area around Bakhmut, the city where Wagner was suffering heavy losses.
Allegedly, Prigozhin contacted the intelligence chiefs in Kiev and offered his state to provide the locations of their forces in return for allowing less pressure on his mercenaries and forces in Bakhmut. According to the documents, this offer was rejected by the Ukrainians who did not trust the leader of the mercenary organization.
At the same time, Prigozhin also denied this allegation saying that this meeting between him and Ukrainian intelligence officials was supposed to take place somewhere in Africa – he claimed he never entered Africa during the whole period of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine so it could not have been attend this meeting.
There is no confirmation one way or the other of any of the details, as this is unverified US intelligence.
For its part, the Russian government has dismissed this report as a hoax, but it has not done so completely privately.
