Morgane Cadignan: “I am not jumped on to take selfies” – Comedian talks about her rise to notoriety and future aspirations

As a child, Morgane Cadignan watched “Star Academy” and wanted to become a singer. Only, she quickly realized that she did not have the vocal capacity necessary to match Jenifer, Nolwenn Leroy or Grégory Lemarchal. She then launched herself, successfully, into humor. The 32-year-old Frenchwoman will be at the Casino Théâtre in Geneva on May 25, 2023.

Why doesn’t your show have a title?

He had one the first few years. It was called “Nocturnal Confessions”, in homage to the song by Diams and Vitaa. I took it off after a while, because I couldn’t sum up the show in one title.

What topics do you cover there?

Professional retraining, the dictatorship of happiness, well-being, personal development, parties. In general, the contradictions of my generation and of human beings. How to be a good citizen in a complicated world.

Do you have the impression that many spectators come to see you because they heard you on France Inter?

Yes. Afterwards, over the years, there was word of mouth, but France Inter was a pretty crazy launching pad. This experience taught me to broaden my subject, not to just play my little thing for Parisians of my age and situation.

How do you live your notoriety?

Compared to lots of friends who are much better known than me, I have a relative notoriety. I can largely go buy chouquettes in the morning without having to put on a cap. Especially in Paris where just about everyone is known for something (she laughs). I live it very well. I don’t get jumped on to take selfies.

You have already starred in a series, “Space Game”, would you like to do more television or cinema?

Yes. I have an agency for the cinema, we will try to do castings. I would like to, but not just anyhow. I say no to a lot of things, like a lot of boring person roles. I don’t want to do TV or cinema just to do it. I would love to do a bad, tough, Meryl Streep-style role in The Devil Wears Prada. I understood a long time ago that I wouldn’t manage to be a young first heroine in a romantic comedy.
