After a physical attack on a 69-year-old man on Saturday afternoon (13th) in Offenbach’s Büsing-Park, the police arrested a 27-year-old suspect who is currently being investigated, among other things, on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm.
At around 5 p.m., eyewitnesses told the police that a dispute broke out between the two men on a park bench near the “pagoda”. As a result, according to the findings so far, the younger man is said to have pushed the older man to the ground and then hit him with punches and kicks, including in the head. A companion of the 69-year-old and passers-by who became aware of the situation then stepped in and pulled the attacker away from his victim. The 27-year-old, pursued by a witness, initially fled in the direction of Mainstrasse. Police officers who had arrived in the meantime were finally able to confront the attacker, who was hiding in a bush. In the course of the arrest, during which he is said to have put up considerable resistance to the law enforcement officers and at times to have freed himself from the restraints, the officers also used the distance electric impulse device (colloquially: “Taser”) to overwhelm the obviously highly aggressive 27-year-old .
The 69-year-old suffered abrasions and lacerations from the previous alleged attack and was briefly taken to a hospital for further treatment. The suspect was also taken to a clinic for a medical examination after the arrest. A court then ordered the 27-year-old’s temporary placement in a psychiatric facility.
The police in Offenbach are conducting further investigations and are asking for further information from witnesses about the crime (Tel. 069/8098-5100).
