Dogs and cats from the town of Gabriela Mistral and El Rosario, were protected against Rabies, thanks to a special vaccination operation carried out by the Health Authority in the sector.

The activity was carried out preventively following the discovery of a bat with Rabies in the Gabriela Mistral sector in April, an opportunity where all actions were taken both in the focus and in the perifocus.

On the importance of vaccination, the Seremi de Salud (s) Tomás Balaguer explained “This vaccination operation aims to keep pets vaccinated against Rabies, since this is a deadly disease for both animals and humans, for this reason , it is important that people have their pets with the current vaccination ”.

For Claudia Adones, Veterinarian and Head of the Zoonoses and Vector Control Unit of the Seremi de Salud pointed out “We invite the residents of the El Rosario and Gabriela Mistral sector to vaccinate their dogs and cats against this disease to prevent the risk of contagion of rabies from their pets, which is currently present in bats,” said the professional.

In addition, the Veterinary Doctor explained “If our dogs or cats find a bat, they can be infected and unfortunately it will cause the death of the pets, and there is a risk of contagion to the family.”

What is the importance of vaccinating our pets?

It is a vaccine that is applied to animals older than 3 months of age, and must be administered by a veterinarian. This vaccine is administered throughout the life of the animal.

After vaccination, the veterinarian must deliver an anti-rabies vaccination certificate for the pet.
