The queue circled the Park Avenue Armory on May 11, the day of the VIP opening of TEFAF New York, which this year brought together 91 exhibitors. Prestigious works were shown, including a painting by Dubuffet from 1963, proposed for 15 million dollars at the Canadian dealer Robert Landau or a work from the 12e Egyptian dynasty of the Middle Kingdom, once owned by Howard Carter, the British archaeologist behind the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb, at the Ariadne Gallery ($1.1 million). In addition, a two-meter-long bronze bar in the shape of a grasshopper by François-Xavier Lalanne, dated 1974, went for 7.5 million dollars at Kamel Mennour, who had associated with the interior designer Jacques Grange to present his works.
