Cubans arrested for dumping toxic waste in Miami

Miami law enforcement authorities arrested two Cubans for dumping toxic waste in a rural area.

The twin brothers Justo and Juan González Osorio are the protagonists of this event. Both, 43, dumped various toxic substances on April 6 in Redlands, an unincorporated area of Miami-Dade County.

According to AmericaTeVe Miami, the illegally dumped chemicals contained arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, nickel, lead, mercury and zinc. In all cases they are substances with a high level of contamination for the soil of that mentioned area of Florida.

Something similar happened last February. Then, a Cuban was arrested for dumping contaminated waste very close to a lake located in Miami-Dade County. This was the second time the defendant had carried out such an action in just seven months.

witness recording

The person involved in the events was Julio Barreto, 51, who was recorded by a witness while committing the crime. Of course, he never imagined that someone would be near that area of the lake, much less that he would record it while he dumped the toxic waste.

The witness video went viral at the time due to the conversation between the offender and the person who filmed it. “You know that this is illegal, don’t you?”; Barreto replied: “Are you from the same ‘elite’ as me and are you going to kick me out?”

Events like this have been repeated several times in Florida, especially in the last year. In November 2022, for example, another Cuban was arrested in Miami-Dade for littering in a prohibited place.

The police had been monitoring the place where the suspect dumped the garbage with total impunity for some months, until he was caught in the act. Incredible but true, the detainee threw away the garbage resulting from his work in his own home.
