Ferran Olivia, captain of the Spanish national team that won the European Football Championship in 1964, died on Sunday at the age of 86.
The former Barcelona defender and captain, who played more than 500 matches with the Catalan team between 1956 and 1969, won the Spanish League twice (1959 and 1960), and lifted the King’s Cup 4 times (1957, 1959, 1963 and 1968).
“During his time as a player, he was a first-rate defender,” the club said on their website.
Olivia worked as director of Barcelona during the reign of President Jose Luis Nunez, between 1989 and 1993.
