DPS announced support for a possible expert government with the mandate of GERB, BSP has yet to decide what to do, and “There is such a people” left the door open, but at this stage they do not specifically say whether they are ready to vote for such a government.
This became clear after the meetings of Boyko Borisov and Prime Minister nominee Maria Gabriel with the leaders of the three parties.
The leader of GERB has already said that he prefers a cabinet with the support of PP-DB, but the coalition has not yet answered whether they are ready for such an option.
Later on Monday, President Rumen Radev will hand the first mandate to form a cabinet to Maria Gabriel, who will have a week to propose the composition of a draft government or return it unfulfilled.
DPS ready to offer experts
DPS Chairman Mustafa Karadayi repeated the DPS thesis that a government is needed to lead the country out of the crisis and pointed out that the priorities of GERB and DPS overlap.
He wished success to the mandate that GERB-SDS will receive from President Rumen Radev today.
“We at DPS have the self-confidence to have experts from almost all spheres of social and political life. And not bad experts at that. So, if we come to the situation of looking for experts for the government, we will take our responsible behavior and solve this problem with reason “, he pointed out.
The BSP is yet to decide
BSP leader Kornelia Ninova did not answer GERB whether her party will support a government with the first mandate. The decision will have to go through the party’s bodies, but from the meeting between GERB-SDS candidate for Prime Minister Maria Gabriel and GERB chairman Boyko Borisov with BSP representatives, it became clear that the differences between the two parties remain.
The main problem is direct military aid to Ukraine.
The BSP leader said that by sending weapons to Ukraine, her party would immediately withdraw support from a possible government.
“It won’t be easy for you! First to Borisov – you got the approach wrong from the very beginning. A purely party prime minister should not have been proposed. We should have looked for a format for a national government, not a party government”. said Cornelia Ninova.
“We are the two parties with the biggest differences,” she pointed out..
Tomorrow, the National Council of the Socialist Party will be convened to organize an internal poll on whether the BSP should support the “Gabriel” cabinet.
“The decision whether to support or participate in a national government will be made by our members,” Nina pointed out.
According to her, it is necessary to go to an expert office, which is also the opinion of Maria Gabriel. The current European Commissioner, for her part, clarified that it is not about the search for a coalition.
Differences remain
Ninova reported, as the biggest discrepancies, the fixing of GERB for the adoption of the euro, the aid to Ukraine, and the Istanbul Convention.
“We don’t share the view of a 3% deficit, because that would require drastic spending cuts. We expect a deficit of around 4-4.5%”, said Ninova.
She expects the minimum wage to increase, as well as other social payments.
ETC: GERD to be understood first with others
The chairman of the PG of ITN Toshko Yordanov stated that the party will not support a government that tends to make big mistakes and in this sense, Gabriel will have difficult talks with BSP and PP. According to “There is such a people”, the country needs a more restrictive budget, with a deficit of up to 3%, in order to get out of the crisis.
“We are the smallest party and the math for a government comes out even without us. We will give support only if the proposals and the direction of development is correct. So don’t consider us as unconditional support. We haven’t given you support yet, but you difficult talks about finances are ahead with BSP and PP, which are quite left-wing”, said Toshko Yordanov from ITN.
What does GERB offer?
Gabriel announced that he was proposing an expert government for a period of 1 year.
The leader of GERB insisted that the PP-DB coalition should say on Monday by 3 pm whether and how it will participate in the government issued with the mandate of GERB.
Surprisingly, on Saturday, the co-chairman of “Proceeding the Change” (PP) Kiril Petkov announced that he was convening the leadership of the PP-DB coalition to discuss possible support for a government led by Maria Gabriel.
Before that, the representatives of the coalition were categorical that they would not support and participate in a cabinet with the mandate of GERB.
Gabriel has until May 22 to propose a project to the president’s cabinet or return the mandate unfulfilled.
