The news was released The Norwegian Football Association Monday morning.

– I am grateful for the trust and that the NFF wants to extend the contract. I feel we are on the right track in the development of the team, players and support staff, says Solbakken in a statement.

He took over from Lars Lagerbäck in December 2020.

– We are very satisfied with the job Ståle is doing as national team manager. He is a clear and unifying leader for the team and the support apparatus, with an ability to create both competition and security in the national team squad. We want to extend the agreement with Ståle already now, and with that send a clear signal that he is our man in the future, says football president Lise Klaveness.

DELIGHTED: Klaveness is delighted that Solbakken is continuing his work as Norwegian national team manager.

The national team has won 12 out of 24 games under Solbakken. The rest have produced six draws and six losses. The goal score has been 39–23.

Secretary General of the NFF, Karl-Petter Løken, believes that the contract extension can contribute to further security and mobilization in the Norwegian squad.

– Sportingly, we have seen a development in performance throughout, and even though we did not have the results with us at the last meeting, we are still strong in our belief in an EC play-off. For me, there is no doubt that Solbakken is the right man to take us forward in the years ahead, says Løken.

Norway stands with one point after the first two games in the EC qualification. On 17 June, Scotland awaits at the Ullevaal stadium, before the national team will play against Cyprus three days later.

National team captain Martin Ødegaard is happy about the news.

– The players have great faith in this project, in Ståle and the support apparatus. He is a clear leader who takes us in the right direction. I feel we are constantly taking new steps, and I am already looking forward to the games to come and the road ahead with this group, says Ødegaard.

At 11.30, the Norwegian Football Association will hold a press conference in connection with the news and “status in Norwegian top football”.
