The first results of the presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey have started to come out.
According to initial data, the current leader of our southeastern neighbor, Recep Erdogan, received 53.17 percent of the votes.
Opposition-nominated candidate Kemal Kulçdaroğlu received 40.88 percent of the actual ballots.
The rest of the votes were given to the nationalist Sinan Ogan (a little over 5 percent) and to the withdrawn contender Muharem Ince (about half a percent), “Hurriet” wrote.
As one of the candidates received more than 50%+1 votes in the first round, Erdogan retained his power.
Meanwhile, the initial results of the parliamentary elections came out. According to the results of 11 percent of the ballots processed, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) will have 349 seats in the 600-member Turkish Mejlis.
The main opposition force – the People’s Republican Party (NRP) has 98 seats, BTA added.
According to the Turkish opposition, voter turnout today was 93.6 percent. There is still no official data from the High Electoral Commission.
Today’s elections started at 8:00 a.m. and lasted until 5:00 p.m. More than 64 million Turkish voters have the right to vote.
Enhanced security measures were introduced in the country.
