“Jan van den Biggelaar and Peter de Waard Exhibition: Two Perspectives on Art”

Both have painted a few subjects especially for this exhibition, the three Marys and the forest fire. The beauty of this expo is that there are topics that are expressed in two different ways.

Jan van den Biggelaar and Peter de Waard

From 1963 to 1968, Jan studied at the academy in Tilburg. After that period he developed into his current way of working. Until 1990, Jan painted realistically: watercolor, still life, landscape, portrait. From 1990 he chooses to paint people. He looks for people in a group, events and emotions. Gradually his characters become more and more abstract.

There is work by Peter from his course time and paintings with a clear choice for realism. Different subjects in the exhibition are the same and can be compared with each other. That gives the opportunity to see the different imaginings and that there are many possibilities to depict something. This is nicely made clear in the portraits, all portraits resemble the person, but the technique is different.

The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of Mariëndael. These can be found on the website: www.mariëndael.nu
